The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him. –Daniel 9:9 NIV
In the Bible, we can read the story of the Prodigal Son. This young man asks his father for his inheritance early. The father agrees and gives him his share. The son then sets off for a distant country, and there he squanders his wealth. His choices were foolish, and he eventually has no choice but to take a job feeding pigs.
That is when he realizes that his wrong decisions were due to his sinful desires. He sinned against both the Lord and his father. The prodigal son then decides to go home and ask for forgiveness.
The Lord always knows what we need even when we are led astray. Our mistakes and failures when confessed are met with compassion and God’s open arms—just like the father of the prodigal son. Luke 15:7 (NIV) says, “I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.”
There will always be God’s forgiveness waiting for us whenever we make wrong choices outside of God’s will. Just like the father extended love and forgiveness to the prodigal son, so our heavenly Father will welcome us and rejoice.
We are all in need of forgiveness, which is why we need a Savior. Praise God for our Savior, Jesus!
Thank God for always being ready to give us His abundant grace.
