This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. -1 John 4:17 NIV
Who are you? How are you defining yourself? There are people around us who know our lives, our hopes, our dreams and our failures, that will try to define us by our actions. Even religion today tells us that to be a Christian we must be doing this thing or that thing, and so we begin to allow our behavior to define us. The truth is, who you are is not defined by what you have done, but rather what Jesus Christ has done on your behalf. If you focus only on your behavior, then you are allowing your behaviors to define who you are.
If you focus on Jesus Christ and who you are in him, that identity will then alter your behavior. As 1 John 4.17 says, “….. as He is, so are we in this world”. The question for you today is not, who does man say you are, but more importantly who does God say you are? Your father in heaven says that you are just like his son Jesus:
As He is righteous, you are righteous. As He is holy, you are holy. As He is love and grace and mercy, so are you. Focus on who you are in Jesus Christ and allow this new identity to bear its fruit in your life, so that, “as He is, so are you in this world”.
