We will use them to build a monument so that in the future, when your children ask, ‘What is this monument for?’ you can tell them, ‘It is to remind us that the Jordan River stopped flowing when the Ark of God went across!’ The monument will be a permanent reminder to the people of Israel of this amazing miracle.” -Joshua 4:6-7 NLB
As a follower of the Lord, you are called to walk by faith and not by sight. It is often in hindsight that you see God’s faithfulness in your life and in the lives of those around you. Recognizing how God has been faithful to you in the past helps you to develop a stronger trust in Him for the future.
Recording what God has done in the past is a great way to share with others God’s faithfulness in your life. Not only that, but it will also remind and encourage you when tough times arise. He was faithful then, surely, He will be faithful now.
Through increased faith in God’s faithfulness in your life, you will become bold and courageous in moving into the plans He has for you, both personally and in fellowship with others.
He may not call you to cross the Jordan River, but whenever He speaks to your heart—do as Joshua did—listen carefully, obey all He says, and move according to His will. In doing so, you will in time gather additional memorial stones to add to your bedrock of faith.
- Pray God will help you discover the stepping-stone of faith he wants you to take.
- Ask for the courage to take that next step.
