Forgiveness

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

–Ephesians 4:32 NIV

It’s not easy to forgive, especially when you’ve been wronged. Forgiveness is not a likely response when you’re hurt. It’s personal, and you may become angry and want to get even. This may sound harsh, but your human nature can cause you to retaliate. However, the foundation of forgiveness is not excusing what the person has done. You can’t pretend you weren’t offended.

At times, reconciliation is not possible. You may have to walk away from the relationship, but you can still forgive. When you get stuck in the pain, you will never have peace. Leave the consequences with God. Romans 12:19 (NIV) tells you, Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.

Remember what Jesus did on the Cross for you. Through Jesus’ death, there is forgiveness for your sins. Psalm 130:3 (MSG) reveals, If you, God, kept records on wrongdoings, who would stand a chance? So, let it go and put it behind you. Rest in the knowledge that forgiving sets you free. It gives you peace that transcends all understand.

Prayer Focus

  • Ask God to help you forgive.
  • Pray that God will speak to you before you take revenge.
