First Time Obedience

If My people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and I will forgive their sins and I will heal their land. -2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV

First time obedience is what we want and expect from children. Why? Because if we count to 3, kids know they aren’t expected to act until we reach 3, or at least 2. Just because children are listening to your request, doesn’t mean they are obeying.

That’s exactly what your Father expects from you too. He wants you to be quick to hear and to train you own flesh to have first time obedience.

James 1:22 says, “But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. Because if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his own face in a mirror…[who] goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but one who does good works—this person will be blessed in what he does,” (HCSB). God wants to bless you. When you are walking in disobedience you are not walking in God’s best for your life, therefore, He is unable to give you His blessings.

Let this be your prayer: That you would hear your heavenly Father and respond obediently, immediately with intention and purpose to live in the fullness of all that He has for you.

Prayer Focus

  • Pray that God would humble your heart.
  • Pray that as you walk more closely with God that you will walk in His fullness and His abundance.
