Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. –Psalm 23:4 NIV
There used to be a television commercial for cough drops where a man stood on the top of a mountain yelling, “REEECOLA!” Yes, the guy is on top of the mountain, but how did he get there? Didn’t he have to go through a valley to get to the top?
It often seems in life that we spend more time walking through those valleys than we do standing on the top proclaiming victory. But think about this, without the valleys, the mountains wouldn’t feel so high. Without the valleys, we’d be tempted to take for granted the view from the top.
Without the valleys, we’d begin to think that we were the ones responsible for our successes and forget that they were gifts from God. The view from the valley gives you only one way to look—UP! If you’re walking through the valley of the shadow of death today, look up! Your REEECOLA moment is definitely on the way.
- When in the valley, look up and remember that God won’t leave you there.
- Your victory is coming; keep the mountaintop in sight.
