The Danger of Complacency

For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them... –Proverbs 1:32 NIV

Dictionary.com defines complacency as a feeling of quiet pleasure or security, often while unaware of some potential danger, defect or the like; self-satisfaction…with an existing…condition. It’s easy to allow complacency to creep in when life is comfortable. But, is it true for you that in your suffering there is a sweet desperateness? You anxiously want reassurance that God is present and working on your behalf. It is during such times that your relationship with God is the most tangible. As you seek Him all day and every day, you find peace, you stand firm, and you believe! When you seek God with all your heart, soul, and mind, you find the intimacy you crave. But what inevitably changes when your prayers are answered and life is “good” again? Does He move on to someone else who needs Him more? Of course not! God remains the same always. You are the one who moves. It is vital to seek God always, in times of desperation as well as in the “good” seasons. Resist the urge to grow complacent so that you will not be caught off guard. Your next challenge may be just around the corner. Be prayed up, standing firm and fully dressed in the armor that God has provided.
