Take a Deep Breath | Saturday | June 29

The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

–Job 33:4 NIV

There are more than two million hits on the Internet for the topic “Deep Breathing Exercises.” The first one to pop up says, “Breathing exercises should be deep, slow, rhythmic, and through the nose, not through the mouth.” Very interesting considering this verse from Genesis: Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being (Genesis 2:7 NIV).

People overcome with emotion or pain or having a “panic attack” are advised to “breathe deeply.” When doing so, the body receives a full supply of oxygen, slows the heart rate, and stabilizes blood pressure.

Life is all about God—the breath of life. Every time we inhale and exhale, we are enjoying the essence of our heavenly Father. When feeling overwhelmed with day-to-day busyness and blather, stop and take a deep breath or two or three. You’ll be glad you did. Make it a habit.

Prayer Focus

  • Pray for God’s breath to fill you with His Holy Spirit, refreshing your body, mind, and soul.
  • Pray that every breath you take is in response to living life according to His purpose and for His glory.
