Sunday | November 10 | What’s in Your Heart?

A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. –Luke 6:45 NIV

I once had a friend tell me that the highlight of his day was when he got home from work. He said his dog would almost knock him down jumping into his arms. She would lick his face and follow him everywhere he went, she would curl up next to him all night while watching TV.

Then he quietly said, “I wish my wife would be that happy to see me just once.” It was then that he realized he’d actually said out loud what he was thinking. He was totally embarrassed. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

We all need to know that someone loves and appreciates us, but sadly we too often take for granted those who mean the most to us. Who in your life means the most to you? Do you affirm them with kind words, encouragement, and love? Do you often think kind things, but forget to say them?

I’m not suggesting you jump up in their arms and lick their face, but I am suggesting we let them know how we feel. We can learn a lot from our pets, unconditional love doesn’t take a genius, only a big heart.

Prayer Focus

  • Listen to your words, they will reveal what’s in your heart.
  • Once you know what’s in your heart, pray for wisdom to produce good words.
