I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world. –John 16:33 NLT
Complaining and worrying doesn’t change the outcome of any circumstance. We live in a world where trials are inevitable. We can’t allow ourselves to become defeated; instead, we need to stay strong and persevere. Life is temporary here on earth—it is not the final chapter. There is a beautifully written prayer by Reinhold Niebuhr that encourages us to continue standing strong with God’s help. This prayer is titled “The Serenity Prayer,” and it can be found on plaques, stationery, journals, and more. Let’s be encouraged and stand strong in Christ as we remember this prayer:
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; enjoy- ing one moment at a time; accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it, trusting that You will make all things right if I surrender to Your will; that I may be reasonably happy in this life, and supremely happy with You forever in the next. Amen.
- Pray and ask God for His strength during your trials.
- Trust that God is in full control even when it is hard to understand.
