Your Spiritual Heart

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV

The condition of your “spiritual heart” is important to God. It is wise that you seek God on a regular basis regarding the condition of your heart. It is unwise to lean on your own assessment. Instead, rely upon the Holy Spirit to probe your heart, which will reveal the true condition of your spiritual heart. Here’s a comparison of a stony heart versus a pliable heart bent toward God.

A hard heart is: Callous (Psalm 119:70); Hard (Ephesians 4:18); Dark (Romans 1:21); Unrepentant (Romans 2:5); Far from God (Mark 7:6).

A humble heart: Seeks God (Psalm 119:2, 10); Praises the Lord (Psalm 9:1); Is grateful to God (Colossians 3:16); Is pure and sincere (Mathew 5:8, Hebrews 10:22); Loves others (1 Peter 1:22).

Only God, your Great Physician, knows the true condition of your spiritual heart. Out of love for you, He will correct you with His gentle hand of discipline. God uses this divine discipline to get you back on the right path of His choosing. As you seek God with all your heart and allow Him to pour His love into you; you will reap a more loving and healthier life in Christ.

God’s word says, “Guard your heart more than anything else, because the source of your life flows from it” (Proverbs 4:23 GW).

Prayer Focus

  • Pray this prayer of thanks: God I’m so thankful for Your loving hands of discipline in my life. You love me too much to allow me to remain comfortable in things that are not healthy to my overall well-being.
  • Pray these words of understanding: Lord as important as the condition of my physical heart is in keeping me alive and healthy, I realize I need You to search my heart and point out if there is anything within me that is building up.
