Self-Honor? No, Thanks

OCTOBER 28TH, 2021      |    We have all achieved something that earned us the praise and applause of others. As a kid, maybe you scored the winning touchdown during the championship game, or you won the school spelling bee three years in a row. As an adult, maybe you won a lucrative contract for your company, or you raised the most money for a charity.

It’s a good feeling to win, achieve, and surpass; and it’s certainly okay to bask in that feeling for a while. But what happens when achievements alone are your life’s goal? When your family, friends, and even your children take a back seat to your need to achieve, succeed, and win?

When you chase awards, achievements, and pats on the back, you’re serving other gods such as self-service, self-glory, and self-honor. Only God deserves all your service, glory, honor, and praise. Only God determines your worth. To Him, you’re priceless, even if no one else remembers your name.

Self-Honor? No, Thanks

It’s not good to eat too much honey, and it’s not good to seek honors for yourself.

–Proverbs 25:27 NLT

Ask God to help you focus on the things that matter to Him.

Ask Him to help you to strive to honor Him, not yourself.
