God’s Got This

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. –John 16:33 NIV

When we’re stressed out, tired, or not feeling well, it’s easy to get discouraged. When we go through a traumatic event like the death of a loved one or a divorce, it’s natural to get depressed. When we experience life changes like retirement, relocating, or a career change, it’s expected to feel lost. None of these reactions mean that you have lost your faith or your spirituality. It simply means that you’re human. So how do we navigate these uncharted waters? First of all, cut yourself some slack. Remember, “there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1 NIV). What you’re experiencing, even the greatest heroes of faith in the Bible have experienced. Second, forget today’s troubles. Think about other tough times in your life, how hopeless you might have felt, and how God brought you through each one. Remind yourself that you’ve already survived 100 percent of your worst days, and you’ll survive this. Life is filled with struggles, Jesus told us that in this world we will have tribulation. Third, talk with a trusted friend. If one can put a thousand to flight, two can put ten thousand to flight (see Deuteronomy 32:30). You’re going to be okay, the Father’s got your back.

prayer focuses

David encouraged himself in the Lord, he recalled the times God delivered him.

Focus on the deliverance, not the problem. Remember community, we all need each other.
