“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” –Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
Back to the Future was a great series of movies. Who of us hasn’t had the thought that we’d like to know our future or go back and change the past? However, there’s just one problem with most of us; we can’t lay hold of the future because we’re too busy holding on to the past. It takes courage to face the past, acknowledge the pain, and then be willing to go through the process of inner healing.
We don’t have to be victims, we don’t have to hold on to pain as if it were our security blanket because it’s all we’ve ever known. Jeremiah 29:11 promises us hope and a future. Does that sound like we’re supposed to be bound by our past? We can’t jump in our DeLorean and change the past or visit the future, but we can shape the future with a fresh, new attitude. It’s a new day every morning.
We can start each day with a clean slate; we write the pages of our future. You can become the person you were created to be. Don’t fear the pain, face it. Our God is bigger than any problem. His love can overcome it all.
- Face your fears, let go of the past, and embrace the future.
- Embrace each day as a new day—let the past stay in the past.
