If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored. -Job 22:23 NIV

Perhaps life has taken you down a path you never intended. A poor decision landed you in a place you never desired. Maybe, through no fault of your own, you’re living in unwanted circumstances with seemingly no escape. Confusion, loneliness, shame, and discouragement commandeer your emotions. You know your hope lies in God, but He feels distant.

God has made you a promise. He has your answer. “Return to Me and I will return to you,” (Zechariah 1:3). Return means to turn and go back. When God returns, however, He turns and restores.

When you go back to God, He promises to turn to you and reverse, renew, and repair what is needed. One way to return is to shift your focus, reverse your thoughts. Instead of dwelling on your present situation, think truth. Remind yourself God is greater than your situation. You’re His child. He’s committed to love and care for you. Recount ways He’s rescued you before. Like the one healed leper who “returned” to Jesus, go back to God with gratitude. Thank Him for what He’s done and yet to do.

Turn…go back…return again… return often. Persist until you sense God’s presence and experience His restoring power.

Prayer Focus

  • Tell Jesus you’re giving your life back to Him and accepting His. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you and remind you of truth.
  • Ask the Spirit to restore joy and hope. Ask the Father to deliver you from everything that is not His will for you.
