Recovering from a Bad Swing

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. –Romans 8:28 NIV

Someone recently pointed out that, in the game of golf, it is the bad swings that matter. The good swings get you to the hole. But it is the bad ones that require skill and recovery. All of life could be summed up with this idea. While making all the right choices would be ideal, Romans 3:23 (NIV) reminds us of the truth of our situation, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”How do we get the ball back on the fairway when it lands in the rough? We use the tools of the game. In golf, we would use the right club, the wind, and our expertise (the skill we have developed by practicing over time). In our faith life, our club is the sword of the Spirit—Scripture; the wind is the presence and power of the Holy Spirit; and our expertise is the faith we have developed through experiencing the power of the Lord. We are assured that God will move us in the right direction. Building that kind of faith takes time, just as developing that perfect swing takes time.It might take a couple of swings to get to the hole, but we know that God will move us step by step back to where He has purposed us to be. He will take us out of the pit and back to the green.

prayer focuses

Ask the Holy Spirit to move you out of the rough and pits into which you have fallen.

Thank Jesus that He has made a path to salvation which is never diverted.
