Prayer & Fast - Day 1

Reading the Word Genesis 1:1-5; 26-27

The best place to start anything is at the beginning! That’s where we start today with our 21 days of prayer and fasting, at the beginning of our beginning. Genesis teaches us so much. It is not a lab report on creation, it is a poem, a beautiful story of love and relationship. In the first few verses we can see that God is supreme in His person - as a Triune God; His power - in activity and word; and His purpose - as creator, designer, rebuilder, restorer (I could go on!). He created our world and us with a very clear purpose! Look back over these first 5 verses and note the activity of God – God created (vs 1), the Spirit of God hovered (vs 2), God spoke (vs 3), God saw (vs 4) and God named (vs 5). As we stand on the edge of 2021 and at the start of 21 days of seeking Him more fully, let’s engage with these five actions of God. In this new year and over the next 21 days, what do you need God to create in you? As the Spirit hovered over the dark and empty waters, waiting to create – what are the dark and empty places of your own life and where do you need the Spirit of God to hover and move? What words do you need to hear Him speak over you or what truth do you need to speak into your own situation? Do you need to know that God sees you? What in your life do you need to name, acknowledge or call out? He sees you, He loves you, He created you – on purpose and for purpose. Let’s live it out!

prayer focuses

In what ways is the Holy Spirit speaking to You from God’s Word?   How can you apply this to your life? Prayer God of all Creation, there is none like You.

We worship You.  Spirit of God, hover over us as You did in the beginning and create something new.  Give us a fresh glimpse of Your glory and a new revelation of who You are for this new year.

Bayside Community Church

At the beginning of each year, as a church, we set aside time for prayer and fasting. We believe God deserves our full attention and our best. So, before we fill our calendars for the year, we want to listen.  We say with Samuel, “Speak Lord, for your servant is listening”. (1 Sam 3:9)

These daily readings are collection of thoughts and scripture to use as prompts to invite you to dig deeper - to listen and lean in. Use the scriptures as a springboard to explore further. Consider praying through the scriptures given and let the Word of God speak.

We are praying that you will hear from God in personal and powerful ways over the next 14 days and beyond!
