Polite Company

OCTOBER 24TH, 2020      |       When growing up and learning how to mind your Ps and Qs—socially correct behavior, or minding your manners—you may have heard, “Don’t talk about politics or religion in polite company.” Why? Because that discussion may lead to quarrels and angry retorts. Why? Because both subjects provoke strong personal beliefs and opinions. Why? Because your faith is deeply rooted within your heart, and your political stance is many times rooted in loyalty to a cause, or a party.

As a Christian you don’t have to hide your light—or wisdom—under a basket; rather, “In your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience…” (1 Peter 3:15-16 NIV).

Polite Company

Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.

Pray that the Lord will guide our country into the light of His Word—may His Kingdom come on earth as it is in Heaven.

“…pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives…” (1 Timothy 2:1-2 NLT).
