Our Relationship with God: Becoming Like Christ
The phrase in Colossians 3:12, “dress in,” or in other versions, “put on,” means to envelope in or hide in. Almost every employer has a dress code for their employees, whether a particular uniform or just a style of dress.
Similar dress gives employees a sense of identity, as well as purpose. When you put on your work clothes, you are no longer just yourself. You become a representative of your employer.
When you accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, His blood covers you. You no longer stand on your own—you become His representative. When you dress in your work clothes, your mind clicks into work mode. The same is true when you dress in God’s chosen wardrobe: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, and discipline. Jesus said, “I must be about ‘My Father’s business” (Luke 2:49 NKJV).
When you become enveloped in those characteristics, you can’t help but be about the Father’s business, because you begin to walk in His likeness. God has laid out the characteristics in which He wants you to dress. As you become closer to Him, you will begin to walk out in the characteristics He designed you to wear.
Thank God that because you are covered by the blood of the Lamb, you are hidden in God.
Pray that you would understand what it means to dress in the characteristics that God handpicked for you.
