Our Church: Day Seventeen

JANUARY 20TH, 2021      |       Today’s focus is the local church, focus on your home church.

The writings of the Apostle Paul are predominately letters to local churches. They provide course correction, encouragement and instruction; they are foundational texts for both Christian theology and ethics. They are filled with exhortations to be grounded in the Word of God, to serve one another and the world, and to live in biblical community. We are also encouraged to support and pray for those who lead us, but more on that tomorrow.

The mission statement of Bayside Community Church is this: Know God, Find Family, Live in Freedom and Discover Purpose. I think Paul would approve. Our scripture passages today point us toward these things. In order to live these out, we need to be grounded in the inerrant Word of God, filled and led by the Holy Spirit, and we need to use our gifts and talents to serve and honor one another.

Take time today to reflect on and pray through these questions:

  1. Do you know God? Have you said yes to a personal relationship with Him?
  2. Are you invested in biblical community? Ask your church about groups for you to explore or lead to find family and connection.
  3. Are you living in freedom? Is the Word of God your truth and does the Holy Spirit have full access and freedom in your life?
  4. Are you using your gifts and abilities to serve one another? Where are you or where could you be serving in the church?

We need one another. We are better together; we are stronger together.

Responding to the Word

What is the Holy Spirit saying to you from God’s Word?

How can you apply this to your life?

Prayer

Father, thank you for planting us in an amazing local church. As a member of this Body, what can I do to grow?  How can I serve? Teach me, show me . . .
