The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel (which means “God with us”). –Matthew 1:23 NIV
At this time of the year, many people greet each other by saying “Merry Christmas.” However, Christmas isn’t always a joyous time for everyone. There are people with unrealized dreams. They may be battling an illness, grieving the loss of a loved one, or hoping for a child.
There are financial difficulties, and the pressure of buying gifts adds to their circumstances. The holiday shines a spotlight on all they are lacking. It certainly does not feel like the most wonderful time of the year for them.
The Christmas season places so much emphasis on materialism that people take their eyes away from Jesus. His coming was the beginning of hope—no matter what your situations may be. This hope lives in your heart and that changes everything. The true message of Christmas is that God is with you.
God will help you and give you His strength to overcome your difficulties. It is not the presents but His presence. The miraculous birth in the town of Bethlehem was God’s best gift. You are loved, not alone, and are very important to God. Celebrate the birth of the Savior, which is the true spirit and meaning of Christmas.
- Christmas is a celebration of God’s love for you.
- Thank God for the perfect gift—His Son—which will always make it a Merry Christmas.
