Look Straight Ahead

Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. -Proverbs 4:25 NIV

Believers who strive to live lives that are pure in heart, mind and behavior often find it difficult to fight against the immoral, evil and sin-saturated world around them. Movies, television, videos, billboard, and other media regularly attempt to lure committed Christians to dwell on things that are at odds with a life of faith.

In order to resist these temptations that swirl around you, it’s often imperative to do exactly what Proverbs 4:25 says—keep your eyes on God.

When you literally following this simplistic guidance, you begin the process of “taking every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ” (2 Cor. 10:5) by choosing not to rest your eyes on the things that call for your attention, (such as inappropriately dressed people, video screens or suggestive advertisements.)
This verse has a powerful spiritual application as well.

When temptations, allurements or criticism from others come at you from the right or left and threaten to trip you up, you can maintain a steady and consistent pace by purposefully setting “your hearts on things above” (Col. 3:1) and deliberately keep walking toward Christ.

Prayer Focus

  • Pray for sensitivity to the temptations around you.
  • Pray for God to lead you in the way of righteousness.
