What Kind Of Apple Are You?

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. -Galatians 5:22-23

Can an apple tree produce anything but apples? No. Will each apple look completely identical, both inside and out? No. Each apple is not exposed to the same things in the same direction at the same time for the same length of time. An apple tree will produce only apples, but each apple will have differences, some slight and some more exaggerated.

Our daily verse says “the fruit…is” vs. the fruits are. “Are” is plural, implying the Spirit will produce one or several of these traits in your life. However, it specifically says “is” which is singular, therefore implying that this list of many traits is still considered one piece of fruit.

So then, if we who are Spirit-filled are supposed to possess and portray all of these traits, why are not all seen at all times in our lives? As is true with the apples on the tree, we have not all been exposed to the exact same things in the exact same direction at the exact same time for the exact same length of time.

God created you beautifully unique, so you might touch and love His people in the unique ways that they need to be loved. You have been given the choice of life with Him and to live by the Spirit. Your challenge is to continue to crucify [destroy] your human nature [the parts apart from God] with all of its passions and desires and to walk in a manner the follows the Spirit.

Prayer Focus

  • Pray for God to show you what your individual giftings are.
  • Pray for God to teach you how you can use those giftings to help others.
