Keeping Christ in Christmas | Friday | December 21

They hurried to the village and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in the manger. After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child. –Luke 2:16-17 NLT

Today’s verses are part of the core of Christmas. Our Savior was born, and we celebrate His birth! However, as years pass, the heart of Christmas fades.

Gradually, society diminishes Christ from this holy celebration. Commercialism rises, public squares prohibit displaying nativity scenes, and saying “Happy Holidays!” is more acceptable. Keeping Christ in Christmas is paramount!

When Jesus was born, Mary wrapped Him in a piece of cloth. She clothed Him in whatever was available. On the contrary, we purchase decorative paper to wrap all the gifts we purchase.

Once Mary wrapped Jesus, she placed Him into a dirty trough. Whereas, we precisely place our presents under embellished Christmas trees. When the shepherds saw Jesus, they were excited to spread the good news.

Sadly, many still don’t know, acknowledge, nor grasp what Christmas is about and the significance of Jesus’ birth. During His first arrival, He came as a humble babe; however, in His second coming, He will return in His full glory. Telling others about Christ is the greatest gift we can offer to those who don’t know Him.

During this hustle-and-bustle time of year, let’s not neglect to share the Good News concerning the Savior of the World.

Prayer Focus

1) Praise God for sending His Son to save us! Ask God to help you to slow down and to embrace and enjoy the true essence of Christmas.
2) Ask the Holy Spirit to bless you with courage to share the “good news” of Jesus’ birth with someone who may not yet know of Him.
