Humbleness Produces Fruit

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

–2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV

Humbling yourself isn’t easy. It means admitting that only God can supply all of your needs, despite the worldly success you may have gained. It means telling others that you sometimes need help, despite the spotless picture you try to paint.

When you reach a place of humbleness, awesome things happen. Psalm 119:34-38 talks about seeking and receiving direction, great insight, life preserved, and fulfillment of promises for those who learn (are taught) God’s Word. The phrase seek My face means to seek out or require God’s presence. When you take the time to study God’s Word, you are seeking out His presence and walking with Him on a whole new level. As you press in to God, planting His Word in your heart, His presence is more prevalent in your life.

What do you need to give to God today? Your marriage, your health, your career, or your children? He’s waiting for you to humbly admit that He–not your own strength–holds the keys to your prosperity.

Prayer Focus

  • Thank God for the opportunity to get to know Him better through the study of His Word.
  • Pray that you would be strengthened as you become more familiar with God’s Word and His promises.
