House Of Bondage

But because the Lord loves you…[He] has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you out of the house of bondage… -Deuteronomy 7:8 AMP

As you might be familiar, “bondage” means slavery. Not just a physical slavery. It’s also fear, anxiety, depression, anger, un-forgiveness, debt, and more. The phrase, “house of bondage,” means a bondage in which we live. That means you not only have this bondage, rather it has you. Regardless of where you are or what you are doing, the bondage is there. If you move, it moves with you. You can’t escape it and you can’t ever leave it, because you are living in it.

Because the Lord loves you, He offers you freedom. Christ purchased our freedom, redeeming us from the curse of the law. God loves you so much that He sacrificed His only Son so that you don’t have to live in bondage. You can live freely.

The truth is this: You have been freed for all time from the law of sin and death. You have been made full in Christ, who is the head of all rule and authority.

That means you don’t have to live in the house of bondage anymore. God, in essence, bought you a new house, a house of freedom in Christ Jesus. The choice of where you want to live is yours. It’s not always easy to walk away from the familiar places we’ve been living, but the Bible promises that you can do all things through Christ who gives you strength.

Prayer Focus

  • Pray and thank God for sending Jesus to free you from your bondage.
  • Pray for guidance to throw off whatever is hindering from becoming more like Jesus.
