Holy Saturday

APRIL 3RD, 2021      |      Jesus spent the day after His crucifixion in a stone-cold cave cut out of rock as a tomb. He had been wrapped in a clean, linen cloth and placed inside. Then, one of His disciples rolled a big stone in front of the cave. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary sat opposite the tomb, watching. No doubt, they were sobbing, as well. Their Friend, their Savior had died a horrible death—now He was shut away from the world, a world that would never be the same.

Jesus’ life and His death changed forever the way God saw His wayward children—the ones He made in His own image. No longer were they sinful, beyondredemption people. Now they were His beloved children, once again welcomed into an intimate relationship with their heavenly Father.

Were angels singing to Jesus in that tomb? Did the Father touch Jesus’ battered body and make it whole and healthy? Was Jesus counting the hours until He would show Himself alive again? There are many unanswered questions this side of Heaven. But the only answer that matters is what happens tomorrow…

Holy Saturday

“Take a guard,” Pilate answered. “Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.” So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting a guard.

–Matthew 27:65-66 NIV

Pray to understand the magnitude of Jesus’ sacrifice, the pain He endured to save you.

Thank God for providing the sacrificial Lamb, the Light to brighten our path through a dark, cold world.
