Here Am I

But the Angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” So he said, “Here I am.”

–Genesis 22:11 NKJV

Hineni is a Hebrew word, pronounced hee-ney-nee, for “Here am I.” In Isaiah 52:6 (MSG), God says, Now it’s time that my people know who I am, what I’m made of—yes, that I have something to say. Here I am! God is responding “Here am I” to humans. Are you expressing total readiness to give yourself to God?

When Abraham was called of God to sacrifice his son Isaac, he said, “Here am I.” Moses replied to God when He called to him out of the burning bush, “Here am I.” Many great men and women of the Bible were ready to do God’s will.

In Isaiah 6:8 (NIV), Isaiah responded Send me! In 1 Samuel 3, God called to the young boy Samuel three times before he responded. In Luke 1:38 (NIV), Mary says, I am the Lord’s servant. … May your Word to me be fulfilled. Are you ready to offer yourself to His service, not even knowing what it might be?

You offer yourself when you come into His presence, in prayer and worship, telling Him you are ready to do His will. Are you saying this today, “Here am I, Lord! Hineni! Send me.”

Prayer Focus

  • Ask God to help you be ready to serve Him and others.
  • Your “Here am I” to the hurting world is your proclamation that Jesus is Lord and Savior, and your willingness to share this Good News.
