He Knows Your Name

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.

–John 15:16 NIV

Before you knew the name of the Lord, He saw you—and He called you by name. The Bible says that God knows the names of each of the stars (Psalm 147:4). The same God knows your name, too.

Not only does He know your name, but He specifically called you by the name He chose for you. Throughout the Bible we are taught that given names have meaning and a defining power over a person’s life. God knows this, and therefore He called you, specifically, by His design for your life. God knows you so well, and He longs for you to know Him equally as well. Psalm 139:13 (NIV) says, For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

If you have been hurt, know that God will not hurt you. Even if you have been rejected, God will not reject you. He loves you and longs to have a deep relationship with you. Will you forgive those who have hurt and rejected you? Will you take the time to get to know God—the God who chooses you?

Embrace the awesome reality of God’s love for you. When you do, life’s normal worries become much less substantial.

Prayer Focus

  • Pray that God makes His love for you feel real to you.
  • Ask God to help you love others as He loves you.
