Happy Mother’s Day!

Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck. -Proverbs 1:8-9 NIV

Do you remember when you were a child? Your parents didn’t know anything and you knew everything, right? Later you found out that they knew a lot more than what you thought but even as you enter adulthood it’s easy to forget about your parents as you become a parent yourself or life brings busyness.

Ephesians 6:2 says to honor your father and mother. There are no conditions. It doesn’t matter if they’re good or bad parents. The verse simply says to honor. Today is Mother’s Day. Rather than sending a polite note to your mother, take time to reflect on how she’s shaped your life for the better.

When you talk to her, be specific. Thank her for what she’s done all of these years. Commit to praying for her, and ask God to bless her immeasurably more. And if she’s made such profound mistakes that it’s hard to love her, remember this: God entrusted her to bring you into the world and you’re his beloved son or daughter. If He would bestow such an honor on her, she’s worth your honor as well.
