Growth Comes from Change

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

–Matthew 5:16 NIV

In order to fulfill God’s purpose for your life, you have to grow. You may be comfortable where you are, you may not even realize that you are complacent in your walk. However, in order to grow you may need to change—this is the only way you move forward.

John 1:5 (NIV) says, The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome. God changes things for your benefit. You should look like a found person, not lost, when you belong to God’s family. This means acting differently from the way the world acts. It may be in your attitude, patience, words, generosity, or compassion.

Change is inevitable when you grow spiritually. You have to want change and not be afraid of it. Leviticus 20:26 (NLT) says, You must be holy because I, the Lord, am holy. I have set you apart from all other people to be my very own. You are a work in progress. Strength is not in who you are but who He is in you. Your goal should be to grow closer to the Lord each day. Don’t be satisfied with your current level. Instead, allow God to move in you and let others see God’s light shine through you.

Prayer Focus

  • Pray for growth in your spiritual walk.
  • Pray that you’d be open to the change God wants to accomplish in you.
