Growing through Grace

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.

–Romans 3:23-24 NLT

What is this thing called “grace?” We often hear people describing dancers or figure skaters as being graceful and we almost immediately envision something beautiful, delicate, and perhaps perfect. Many times we see ourselves as anything but beautiful, delicate, and definitely not perfect.

Try as we might, we do not always get it right. We lose our patience. We say the wrong thing. We can be selfish and self-absorbed. Yet, through God’s grace—His unearned favor—we can get another chance to do better, even if it still is not 100 percent right.

Every new challenge is a chance to get a little better, to get a little stronger and a little closer to our Creator and what He envisioned for our lives. Even the most gifted dancer or figure skater occasionally takes a fall, but the truly seasoned professionals know that they can rise again just as gracefully as they fell. It’s only tragic when you fail to realize you can get up again.

Prayer Focus

  • Pray to see yourself from God’s perspective and with His patience.
  • Ask God for strength and wisdom to keep going, forgiving yourself as well as others, as you grow through His grace.
