What God Shaped You For

It is he who saved us and chose us for his holy work not because we deserved it but because that was his plan long before the world began—to show his love and kindness to us through Christ.

–2 Timothy 1:9 TLB

Every believer has been chosen and gifted by God for a purpose. He gifts us through His Spirit, so we can serve others. We don’t have to hold a notable title to use the gifts God has placed within us. Anytime that we serve others, we’re doing God’s holy work here on earth.

Do you know for what purpose God shaped you? Pastor Rick Warren, of Saddleback Church, gives an illustration to help people figure out how God shaped them for ministry. He says, “You look at your SHAPE — your Spiritual gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality, and Experiences. You look at how God shaped you. God wants you to use your talents and gifts to help other people. Every time you do that, that’s called ministry—nothing fancy about it. It’s just helping others.”

You’re important to God and the Body of Christ. You’re part of God’s family, and He has assignments specifically for you to do. If you neglect to invest your talents and gifts, then God’s church and others get cheated from what God would have them receive. Take time to look at your SHAPE—Spiritual Gifts, Heart, Ability, Personality, Experiences—and discover for which service area(s) God shaped you.

Prayer Focus

  • Thank God for choosing you to be a part of His family and His church. Praise Him for His saving grace through Christ Jesus.
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to empower and equip you with the gifts He would have you use in serving and helping others.
