God Overflowing Love

God is infinite, immeasurable, endless and limitless. As soon as you think you’ve hit the “ceiling” of God’s ability, He will prove you wrong. Graham Cooke talks about this in his teaching Radical Permission and says our lives are like a pint glass and that the fullness of God is like a gallon jug that never runs dry.

God pours His fullness into you and keeps pouring, even after you’re full and overflowing.

In 2 Kings 4:1-7 there’s a story of a widow who’d lost her husband and was going to lose her sons as slaves to a creditor. She implored Elisha for help and he said to gather “not just a few” empty jars from her neighbors. Instead, she was to gather “all you can get” and pour what little olive oil she had in them. As she began pouring, she saw that her little bit of oil didn’t stop flowing until she ran out of empty jars.

The flow of the widow’s oil was limited only by the number of empty jars she had. God’s love is also limited only by your “empty jars” or your ability to receive it. As you grow in Him and by His love, your ability to receive God’s love will grow. God says to bring Him your empty jars and He will fill them to overflowing.

Prayer Focus

  • Thank God that He loves you more than you have ability to receive or know.
  • Ask Him to help you grow in your capacity to receive more of His love.
