…God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.
–2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NLT
When you go through a difficult time, the God of all comfort supplies the help you need through the Comforter—the Holy Spirit. He may also anoint and send someone to impart peace and hope to you.
In Luke 22:31-32 (GW), Jesus tells Peter he will be tested by Satan, but that He has prayed for him so Peter’s faith would hold firm. Jesus then said, “…when you recover, strengthen the other disciples.” God used Peter’s testing to better equip him to help others. You are God’s ambassador—His Kingdom representative on the earth. When you experience His comfort in a time of need, you emerge with a deeper understanding of God’s love and care. You have more compassion for others because you know what it feels like to face a challenge. And you will be better equipped as God’s agent of comfort.
If you are in a challenging season, the Comforter is with you to help you through it. There is an end and a better season ahead. If you have experienced God’s comfort in a time of trouble, then just like Peter, strengthen others. There’s no greater joy than allowing the God of all comfort to use you to benefit others.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to place someone in your path who needs comforting, and for the words you speak to bring hope.
- Pray for someone you know who is going through a hard season. Ask the Holy Spirit to send help to the person today.
