You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.
–1 Peter 3:4 NLT
What does a gentle heart look like to the people around you? Philippians 4:5 (NIV) tells you, Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. When you trust in God, you develop inner beauty that shines through to the outside. Change becomes apparent and a more gentle, quiet spirit is evident. You seek after the fruit of the Spirit which is found in Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT), But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! These are wonderful qualities to have in a world that needs gentleness.
When you can understand God’s perspective, which is the ultimate meaning of life, you can then begin to grow in character. It is not always easy to be gentle and quiet. It takes praying, meditating, and faithfully seeking God in His Word. Your heart is the key. Deuteronomy 6:5 (NIV) tells you, Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. That is all He requires; the rest will follow. Trust in Him.
