The Games We Play – Part Two

Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. -Matthew 5:15-16 NIV

The verse for today states that you are not to hide the light of Christ that is within you; rather, “let your light shine”. Don’t hide what Jesus has done for you; share your faith so others might be saved and come out of the darkness they are living in.

In Barbara Alpert’s book The Games We Play With God, she writes, “Like the colorful pegs in Lite-Brite, we are to shine brightly against the dark backdrop of this fallen world, thereby revealing Jesus to others. We are not to be disconnected from the world, but to remain connected so God can use you as Christ’s representatives. As we remain plugged into our power source, the Holy Spirit, and spend daily time in the Lord’s presence, then we will continue to shine brightly for Him. Wherever God has strategically placed you, you are there to shine brightly with the light of Christ. Choosing to be a luminous light is one part we play in God’s story of redemption. Jesus loves when we guide others toward Him, the glorious Light of the world, so they, too, can become a part of His luminous, bedazzling light show.”

Whether at home or the work place, running errands, chatting with a friend or neighbor, you are a conduit of His light, offering hope and encouragement while pointing them toward Jesus. You may be the only glimmer of light someone sitting in darkness may ever see.

Prayer Focus

  • Pray that God would bring people your way so you can offer hope and encouragement to them.
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to help you shine brightly this Holiday season so others will recognize Jesus in and through you.
