Friend of God

AUGUST 11TH, 2021      |    We sang a song at church, “I am a friend of God. He calls me friend.” According to Scripture, we are considered a friend of God through faith. Abraham was first called a friend of God; and because we are the seed of Abraham through faith, we too share in that friendship through belief in Jesus Christ. But do we really understand what that means? What is a friend?

David and Jonathan were true friends in spite of Jonathan’s father’s attempts to kill David (see 1 Samuel 19). Proverbs 18:24 and 27:6 tell us that a friend loves at all times and sticks closer than a brother and that wounds from a friend can be trusted. In short, true friends stick by your side no matter what. They tell you what you need to hear, in love, not what you want to hear. Friends are of like mind, and you can be yourself without fear of judgment. You can confide in them with complete trust. You respect them, and they respect you. You are a friend of God, so live like one!

Friend of God

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

When troubled, take your cares to the Lord as you would a trusted friend.

A friend can be trusted to do something at a moment’s notice. Thank God for being your Friend!
