See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven. –Matthew 18:10 NIV

We have angels assigned to us, and the book of Hebrews reveals that their purpose is to minister to us. “Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?” (Hebrews 1:14 NIV). Also, Psalm 91 teaches about the ministry of angels to God’s people.

Many of the angels’ protective duties described in Psalm 91 are preventative, and we can’t command their activities. Rather, these angels are dispatched as Matthew 18:10 describes by looking at the Father’s face. God Almighty controls them for us; however, we do have a part to play.

In Psalm 91, it is those who dwell in the secret place of the Most High who are able to benefit from angelic activity. Verse 2 of Psalm 91 further instructs us to speak forth that He is our refuge and fortress and that we are trusting in Him. It is the combination of faith in God and His faithfulness that releases the angels on our behalf. However, as we seek the Lord, become aware of His ministering spirits, which were created to minister for us, and as we speak forth our faith, He will send forth angels on our behalf. We have a part to play. God has so much for us, but we must take the step.

Prayer Focus

  • Father, help me to slow down and to take shelter in Your refuge. To dwell in Your fortress and rest in Your shadow.
  • Father, help me to take the step—the step to trust in You, to have faith, and to release my faith by speaking about it.
