Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!”
–Matthew 4:19 NLT
Forty-three times in the New Testament Jesus said, “Follow Me.” If you call yourself a Christian, you are a Christ follower.
To be a follower of Jesus, your purpose is to get closer to Him and follow His example. You should pattern His love, compassion, and forgiveness. Always be kind, generous, and willing to help those in need. Seek His ways and don’t let anything or anyone stop you from following Jesus.
His love is the same for everyone. He stands at the door and knocks, waiting for you to open it. He wants every person to hear the message of salvation. As a follower, share the gospel message with others. Step out in faith, make it simple, and meet people at their level. When you do, you will be surprised at just how willing people are to hear. There are many lost souls who need to hear how much God loves them.
When you follow Jesus, your heart should inevitably go out to hurting people. A strong faith can be a witness for others to choose to follow Jesus, as well.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to think through you and love through you.
- Pray to be open, and allow the Holy Spirit to use you to share the good news.
