Cut Away the Waste

Say to those who have an anxious heart, “Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you.” –Isaiah 35:4 ESV

Say to those who have an anxious heart, “Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you.” –Isaiah 35:4 ESV

When you replace God’s peace with worry, fear and anxiety, you are wasting your resources of time, energy, money and health. God has given you a way to combat the worry in your life: rest.

In his teaching, “The Practice of Rest,” Graham Cooke says, “Rest is a weapon, it’s a sword in your hand and you can put…to death, anxiety, lack of peace, unrest, worry, fear, [etc.] …You can cut away with the sword the thing you don’t need to affect you wrongly.”

True rest comes from letting go of your worries and making the decision to trust that God is good and He has you in His hand. As you talk with God, take the time to listen to what He is saying as well.

He will guide you into His rest. Maybe He is leading you to cut back in some areas, making time for more important areas. As you begin to trust His voice and follow His lead, you will enter into God’s peace.

Prayer Focus

  • Ask God to help you carve out time every day to simply rest.
  • Ask The Holy Spirit to reveal the things in your life that need to be discarded as waste.
