Choose, Don’t Lose | Sunday | May 5

And those the Lord has rescued will return. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.

–Isaiah 35:10 NIV

Every morning we have a choice to make. Will we be victims of our circumstances, or will we seize the day and make it the best it can be? If we wait for our circumstances to change before we can have a good day, it’ll never happen. There will always be something that agitates us, disappointments to face, and happenings beyond our control. But those things don’t have to define who we are.

We were not created to be victims; we were created to be world overcomers. We have to remember in the midst of trials that this too shall pass, and that all things are subject to change. Tomorrow will have troubles of its own. When we can’t change the circumstances, we can change our attitudes. Our identity is not in self, which is limited by our own abilities; but our identity is found in the One who created all things. He give us joy and a new perspective!

Make each day your own; don’t let the day own you. It’s easy to do what the world does, for they go with the flow. However, as believers, we should be like salmon swimming upstream, bucking the system, and refusing to be defeated. Choose God’s perspective; don’t lose your joy.

Prayer Focus

  • In spite of what it may look, feel, or seem, choose to have a good day. Ask God to give you strength to do that!
  • Don’t let circumstances—that change like the weather—be your focus. Focus on God’s truth, and truth shall reign in your life.
