Break Every Chain

JULY 28TH, 2020      |       Imagine that you’ve really blown it at work and cost the company thousands of dollars. There’s no way you can fix it. You feel horrible, and you know you’re getting fired. Or imagine that you’re a teenager who has made some really dumb choices, and now your parents are going to have to answer for your behavior. You feel so disappointed in yourself, and you wish you could have a do-over. Or imagine if your best friend desperately needed your support and you were just too busy to help. How do you handle knowing you didn’t show up when needed the most?

Now imagine if the responses of your employer, parents, or friend went something like this. They were gracious, forgiving, merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love. When they saw the repentance of your heart and knew the depth of your grief, they were good to you and never gave up on you. They never even entertained the thought of abandoning you. Where you expected judgment, condemnation, and punishment, they extended grace.

That is exactly how our Father forgives us. Romans 8:1 says it all, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” He loves you, so break every chain of sin. Turn to Him with a repentant heart. He will always be there to show you grace.

Instead of lamenting what you can’t change, praise the Father for what He can do. Repent. Receive forgiveness. Live.

Condemnation is the tool the enemy uses to keep us in bondage. Ask God to help you break every chain, learn from the past, and celebrate freedom.
