Be the Word

DECEMBER 31ST, 2021      |    We know that to be healthy we should eat right, exercise, drink plenty of water, and get sufficient rest. Many have tried different diets, exercise programs, and research the latest preventative natural cures. Yet we often fail to put the knowledge we have into practice. We can have all the knowledge in the world; but if we don’t apply what we’ve learned, we’re never going to benefit from it.

We can also do the same thing spiritually. We can study Scripture, memorize it, and even learn Greek and Hebrew; but if we don’t apply that knowledge, we’re never going to grow. James 1:22 (ESV) says, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” If we spend time studying about love, yet go out in public and bite people’s heads off, what good is that? If what we’re reading from the Word isn’t lived out, it profits us and no one else nothing.

When we read God’s Word, then go out into our day and put it into practice, we’re proving that His Word is alive. Be the Word; don’t just read it.

Be the Word

What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

–Philippians 4:9 ESV

Ask God to help you take baby steps, doing one small thing per day to improve your spiritual and physical health.

No one is perfect, but we’re being perfected daily. Ask the Lord to help you each day to be a doer, not just a hearer.
