Be Real

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. –1 John 1:9 NIV

The word “real” is defined in the dictionary as authentic, true, and genuine. What does real mean in your everyday walk as a Christian? It does not mean perfect. There are no perfect Christians—not one. God is not looking for perfection. He is looking for you to take the mask offand come to Him. Tell Him what is on your heart—the good, the bad, and the ugly. He is calling you to be genuine and true.Every Christian falls short at times. In the Old Testament, we learn about King David whocommitted adultery and had one of his soldiers killed to cover up his sin. Yet God referred to King David as “a man after His own heart” (1 Samuel 13:14 NIV). King David suffered consequences for his actions, but he went before the Lord being real, confessing his sin, and asking for forgiveness. And, the Lord restored the king to intimate fellowship with Him.This is all your heavenly Father is asking of you. When you pray, be honest and open. Take off the mask and ‘fess up. He already knows everything about you—there is nothing you have to hide. He is an awesome God who is calling you to be genuine and true.
