Your Attitude Controls Your Outlook

But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place.

–2 Corinthians 2:14 NASB

In the movie Facing the Giants, the coach adopts a new team philosophy, saying, “Your attitude is like the aroma of your heart; if your attitude stinks, it means your heart is not right.” What does the aroma of our hearts—our attitudes—really mean to God?

There’s probably somebody in your life who seems to find the downside in everything—a “glass half empty,” type of person. On the other hand, think of the person who finds joy in the worst of circumstances. Each have a unique aroma—one inspires others, while the other repels.

How do you keep from displaying the “glass half empty” attitude? By getting to the source. Often, your attitude begins with your thoughts. Start by examining your thoughts. Then begin to feed your mind good things through reading and studying Scripture, as well as praise and worship. As your thought process changes, so will your relationship with God.

Like any habit, changing your thoughts will take both time and practice—but God will help you. Matthew 21:22 (ESV) says, And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith. Believe that God can do what He says.

Prayer Focus

  • Pray that God will reveal any wrong thinking so that you can replace them with His truth.
  • Pray that God will use you to encourage others with poor attitudes.
