Are You a Missionary?

FEBRUARY 21ST, 2022      |       When you think of missions, you might think of hopping on a plane, traveling to a faraway land, and sharing the message of Christ with people who desperately need it. While that’s a component of missions, there’s much more to being a missionary than just faraway travel. You are called to be a missionary right here, in your own backyard.

The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:18-19 (NIV), “All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.”

God has given us a message and a mission—the message of reconciliation and the mission to share Jesus’ love and sacrifice with the world. Maybe God isn’t leading you to another country, but maybe He is calling you to affect those around you by sharing His Word. If you choose to step out in obedience and faith, God will use you in ways you never could have imagined.

Are You a Missionary?

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you[b] to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.

–Colossians 1:9-12 NIV

Ask God how He would have you share the salvation message with others around you.

Pray for missionaries and missions organizations around the world—for protection and resources to spread the gospel.
