Closed Doors Are Good

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. -Isaiah 55:8-9 ESV

When considering the road ahead, we all have plans for the way we’d like it to go. Even Frank Sinatra sang a song, “I did it my way.” So what does your way look like when several opportunities are laying at your feet? Most would prefer a clearly marked and open door with little to no opposition standing in the way. But God clearly declares several times over that this line of thinking is not His way.

Habakkuk felt your pain when he complained to God, “How long, O Lord, must I call for help, but you do not listen?” He surely felt more dumb-founded when the Lord said that He was going to raise up—give even more free reign—to Habakkuk’s enemies. So Habakkuk thought maybe the Lord just didn’t understand him, because after all, this is the Holy One who cannot tolerate evil and yet not only was He allowing it, He was declaring it? That doesn’t make any sense.

Promises from God have been made to all us. So how can door after door keep slamming in our faces? Because it’s not about your timing; it’s about His.

As frustrated as you are when door after door is slammed shut, on the day that His promises come to fruition, will we even care about the opposition we faced to get there? Or will we be so overjoyed at the promise fulfilled that everything else will fade from existence? Whatever you are facing today, whatever struggles or opposition, know that God still sits on the Throne and knows your desires and His promises to you.

Prayer Focus

  • Pray and thank God for the closed doors in your life and for His perfect timing.
  • Pray and thank God for the promises He has made in your life.
